The Basics
The Indian Student (S) Visa is issued free of charge for Bangladeshi nationals under the bilateral agreement between Bangladesh and India. You only pay the IVAC service fee of BDT 1,500 (raised from BDT 600–700 in August 2025).
There is no fixed minimum bank balance required — unlike Canada or the UK. India’s financial requirement is based on whether your sponsor can plausibly cover your tuition and living costs.

Common Rejection Reasons
Most rejections are avoidable. The most frequent causes:
- Incomplete documents — missing bank statement pages, unsigned forms, wrong photo size
- Inconsistent financial story — sudden large cash deposits; account opened just before applying
- Weak admission letter — conditional letters or letters from unrecognised institutions
- Unclear study rationale — chosen course doesn’t match academic background
- Security/administrative delays — fully outside your control; rare, but happened during the 2024 protests
After You Arrive: FRRO Registration
If your visa is valid for more than 180 days, you must register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) after arrival.
- Deadline: Within 14 days of arrival for most nationalities
- Bangladeshi students: Some official sources mention a 24-hour window — check your visa sticker. If it says 24 hours, that is binding.
- How: Entirely online at frro.gov.in — no office visit required in most cases
- What you need: Passport, visa page, arrival stamp, university bonafide letter, proof of address in India (hostel letter, etc.)
Missing the FRRO deadline results in fines and can complicate future visa extensions.
